A TEMPLE OF THE MIND

The Galactic Matriarx is an evolving, live publication which exists to help you see a reflection of yourself in a way that is continually transformative, enlightening and inspirational. It’s a place you can go to at any time, and something you may carry with you in your mind and in your heart. It’s a meeting ground for those you would find in the world who are inspired by similar things. This imaginary universe is a space which you can inhabit, and gives you permission to take ownership of everything you personally value, including yourself.

Why and How?

The content of this website, and my offline publications, is the result of time, focus, and transformation resulting from real life experiences. The ideology and mechanics of this mythology, creating images, writing out ideas using prose, story, diagrams, editing audio and videos, web & game development, offline publishing, and developing a cohesive concept from which to draw further depth. My years spent working in all of these categories has helped me to put something together that speaks for itself.

I’ve been an artist since I was old enough to walk. This occupation became a career with various ebbs and flows throughout the years. While I also enjoyed creating technical drawings of a sci-fi nature, comic style characters, birds and dinosaurs, the feminine aspect always ‘drew’ me back to drawing happy and healthy portrayals of figures, faces, and energies that I felt attracted to.

An Intrinsic Motive

There has been a single, central conviction which continues to fuel my work: it’s that life can be lived well when we have a perspective which nurtures it.

As the COVID-19 lockdowns were ending in Canada, I felt a deep need to go inward (more than before), and to re-invent the outside world as I personally wanted to see it. There were things I noticed about life on this planet that caused me to think, “I’ll just need to create my own reality if I want to continue living here.” Yet, I would rather not be alone with that forever; I resolved to create a symbolic reality of what I’d like to see in the real world: and then invite people who enjoy that vision to be part of it. This led to the question, “What do I think the world needs, if we’re to see a bright future?” This two-fold thinking was what really called the Galactic Matriarx to life.

The On-Ramp

Time spent in meditation, and journaling regarding next steps in my artistic pursuits, led up to a simple inspiration to tap into local markets on Vancouver Island, BC with my artwork. This, I hadn’t done in almost 20 years. I started with a handful of newer digital, and hand-drawn illustrations (and some of my landscape photography) for which I wrote accompanying meanings, and sold them in person as ‘FlipSide’ postcards. I had been honing my writing craft for years, with the intent to help shed more light on what I meant to share in my visual portrayals: to lend context to some who might not understand my mindset.

The Goddess artwork, a newer pursuit inspired by my experimentation with AI image platforms (as they were first emerging) evoked conversations that were meaningful to my customers, and of course, myself. I then decided to post them on my website to share and organize them. From that step, it became apparent there was a theme developing; I was inclined to starting organizing them into cohesive themes. Having created 3 oracle decks previously, I got to thinking about this content. Friends were asking me if I was planning to make a deck from these. I conceded and leaned more into the work.

As my established career in web-development slowed down post-apocalypse, I resolved to start into something that is deeply meaningful for me, and was shaping up to be the kind of focus I had been thinking of previously, for years. Thousands of hours in, it’s taken on a life of its own: and keeps going. It has surprised me more than a handful of times as it seems to keep on growing both in size, and scope. What I know, is this: I wanted to express a cultural vision I had in mind, which encompassed not only this concept but something of a broader scope, which became the Cosmic Feminine. I have always enjoyed helping individuals connect their rational thoughts with their feelings, which sparks emotional intelligence the viewer may not have formerly possessed.

Who are these Goddesses?

When I write from the space of my intent, it often feels automatic, and especially as I do so for my characters, the Goddesses (and the others), the themes and messages come through very clear for me. They begin as subjects which need exploring, and must be included as important facets of life. Some ask if it’s '“channeled”: I have no definitive answers for them, but I do feel like my content is often ‘received’. In an infinite universe, the beings I portray must exist somewhere, in some way, if not only in our hearts as beautiful reflections and projections of our shared energies.

Ethics

With the ever-increasing curve of technological advances (among other things), it’s more important than ever for us to embody a mature, and well-developed mindset in all of our doings. Individuals need a place to come back to: a place within themselves. This prompted me to write a list of tenets, and a batch of short essays relating to the ideology and principles which my universe lives by. This is because, with a well-seated inner disposition as individuals, we are then poised to be creative and deliberate about WHY we do what we do. We may then, as a culture, treat ourselves well enough to account for our humanity. As we identify our true values, we can then have the maturity to expand and develop things in a way that really serves us.

My Artistic Process & The Feminine Aspect

Throughout history, images of the feminine have served as a soothing, yet provocative avenue for catharsis. My practice of studying and drawing feminine portrayals, has been an ongoing art practice since I was a teenager. It’s an expression of what I see in the world, when I feel through to the more subtle layers of beauty. The interpretation of the Feminine as a concept, however, goes beyond the obvious; our orientation to this subject, as culture, extends from the present to our very distant past as humans. Homage to this nurturing energetic force has been a building block for many civilizations throughout the ages; it extends to the very fabric of how we perceive our role in the Universe. For myself, this practice has proven to be a powerful conduit to explore my awareness, and that of others: this is central to the Matriarx ethos.

The Vehicles of Story

The power of story to the human mind, is undeniable; it’s this, in part, that has caused me to really focus on the writing aspect of my work. For those who are curious, I have a rule about not using AI when it comes to my writing. This is because I feel it’s the part where the raw translation of the Matriarx message is delivered, and must be done with accuracy, and straight-from-the-heart fidelity. I use visuals, sound and other mediums to further flesh out, and accompany this landscape. I employ various modalities to create my imagery, from traditional pencil drawing and painting to the latest tech mediums such as digital brushing & editing, photography, and AI as a tool. Modern audio/video tools, combined with my history of videography, skill as a musician and history with digital editing and website development have helped me bring them further to life. I truly enjoy using all of my experience and skill, to share what I have on the inside of my mind and heart, and reflect it on the outside. Through these mediums, I am able to show my unique perspective of the universe, for others to enjoy, relate to, and share.
